Summer 2013 Faculty Update
Faculty
We have a few changes in the works with next year’s teachers. Our beloved Zoe, Liliana’s assistant in K-1, will be leaving to head back to her hometown, Nantucket. We have hired Lauren Delaney to take her place. Lauren is a veteran teacher of 4 years as the leader for the Parker Planeteers at our summer camp. Lauren received her A.S. in Early Education from Hudson Valley, after having spent one of her student teaching experiences in our K-1. Lauren is the mother of 2-year-old Benjamin. She will be a wonderful addition to our faculty.
In 2nd grade math, Sara Schuman will be leaving to pursue a full time career as an adjunct professor of ESL at Russell Sage. In her stead, Jennifer Gresens will be starting as the second grade math teacher in the fall. Jennifer joined us this year as a reading specialist in K-1 and 2-3. She will also continue in that capacity. Jennifer has a Master’s in Education from Hunter College and a BA in Art History and Psychology from University of New Hampshire. She taught at Brooklyn Friends for five years and also at Doane Stuart. She is the parent of Liam in 2-3 and Audrey, K-1.
I am sad to announce that long-time English Language Arts teacher, Sarah Biondello, will be leaving our middle school. Sarah brought her intellect and heart to the middle school, believing in every student and his or her ability to analyze literature and become an accomplished writer. She spear-headed the 8th grade thesis writing and coordinated Shakespeare Week, among a myriad of other responsibilities.
We will be looking to fill Sarah’s position with a teacher who is intellectually vibrant and who will inspire students’ curiosity and passion. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please have them send a cover letter and resume to me. The middle school teachers will be helping with interviews of final candidates, as the new teacher will become an integral part of the team and the life of the school. We hope to make a decision by mid-July, but finding the right candidate will take precedence over the timeline.
