| Today, Robert C. Parker School hosted our State of the School address for an audience of current families, donors, and friends. This annual presentation by our Board and Head of School offers a behind-the-scenes understanding of how our school is run, and provides an opportunity for us to share all that we are proud of at Parker. We are sharing a summary of our State of the School conversation in hopes of widening our reach to share this important information with our caring community of families, faculty, donors, and friends. | Dear Members of the Parker Community, It continues to be a true pleasure to serve as President of the Parker Board of Trustees. I serve with 17 other Board members who each bring a tremendous variety of skills and expertise to their work as Board Trustees. Our membership includes Parker parents and grandparents, Parker alumni and alumni parents, and friends of the Parker Community. Our Head of School, Jennifer Gresen’s is an ex-officio member of the Board. Board members are selected based on an annual assessment of the skills/expertise of current Board members and areas in which a Board feels we could benefit from additional or different expertise. Parker Board Trustees make a major commitment of time when they are invited to join the Board. They are expected to attend regular Board meetings on a bi-monthly basis and to serve on at least one or two Board Committees (some of our Board members serve on more!). Our committees are hard-working, and they are responsible for accomplishing the work of the Board. Our committees include an executive committee, a finance/audit committee, a governance committee, a development committee, a marketing committee, and a Head of School support and evaluation committee. Committee Chairs write a monthly report for the Board’s consent agenda which keeps all Board members up-to-date on the work and progress of each committee. All committees establish goals for the school year. The primary roles of the Board are three-fold: 1. Establishing school policies to ensure the smooth operation of the school. 2. Provide sound financial management of the school’s assets. 3. Hire and evaluate the Head of School. One common trait that all Board members have is a genuine love and passion for Robert C. Parker School and a strong desire to support our administrators, faculty and staff in providing a progressive, project-based, and nature-oriented education for its amazing students. I am honored to serve as Parker’s President of the Board, and I have tremendous respect, admiration, and gratitude for our Head of School and each and every Board member.
