New Teacher
I am happy to announce that we have hired a new English language arts teacher for middle school. Seth Tillinghast is happy to be joining our faculty.
Seth graduated cum laude from the University at Albany with a BA in English and Journalism and an MS in Secondary Education. He is certified in Language Arts grades 7 – 12. He has most recently held a five month maternity leave replacement position in 7th grade English and since 2010 has been a substitute teacher in over ten districts in grades 6 – 12 English. Seth also brings experience with both print and broadcast media.
Seth comes with glowing recommendations from all with whom he has worked, including Dr. Noreen Benton, professor at the University at Albany and Syracuse University and a 30 veteran English teacher at Guilderland High. When Dr. Benton had to go on an extended leave, she chose Seth to be her replacement. She describes his kind ways, his deep knowledge of his discipline as well as his understanding of teenagers and the importance of their developing literary abilities. “He is devoted to students and learning,” she said.
Our middle school teachers met with Seth and felt immediately that he would fit in at Parker and be a wonderful addition to the team. We had a great response to our ad for the position with over 30 very qualified candidates responding. Thank you to many past and present parents for sending recommendations our way, too.
Seth will be at the Back to School picnic where I hope you will help me in welcoming him to his new community.
